Abstract

Community co-creation, centered on human values, fosters favorable conditions for stakeholder participation in design collaboration. Sustainable development of local communities, including their culture, relies on the interaction between humans, artificial systems, and nature. Firstly, this article describes the trend of community co-creation in guidance frameworks, activity tools, and collaboration processes, pointing agency as the platform trigger for community co-creation development. Secondly, based on the bioinclusive involvement framework and practices in various countries, this article summarizes 3 co-creation models and their characteristics in rural communities, and the third model shows chances in local culture and multi-species stakeholders. Thirdly, this article analyzes the combination of the third community co-creation model with local design practices in rural communities in China through a case study. It emphasizes the dynamic relationship between humans and non-humans, including the emergence and flow of related elements. By adopting a non-anthropocentric perspective, this study highlights how designers can activate agency by constructing a platform, developing activities, and making practical efforts to create a stage for local participants. From agency to stage, it reveals the potential for community co-creation to promote sustainable development of local culture, particularly in rural communities in China.
