Abstract

The recent surge in demand for medical facilities due to infectious disease pandemics has emphasized the importance of mobile negative pressure units in hospitals. However, limited information is available on the decision-making process, installation, operation, and dismantling of these units, as well as their impact on patients, medical staff, and management staff. The study aims to investigate the issues arising from the implementation of negative pressure mobile clinic module in real hospital environments and to evaluate their applicability and effectiveness. Using expert interviews with stakeholders from a hospital utilizing a mobile negative pressure unit, named Mobile Clinic Module (MCM) units, this research identifies issues related to usability, efficiency, stability, and cost-effectiveness while the units are used as respiratory outpatient treatment center in a hospital. We discuss design and technological changes to enhance the performance of these units, ultimately aiming to provide efficient and safe medical environments for patients with infectious diseases. Through this research, a systematic understanding of the design and implementation of mobile negative pressure units will be promoted, and practical suggestions is discussed for successful implementation in real hospital environments.
