Abstract

This case study presents a speculative co-design approach in which healthcare professionals employ real news articles and AI-generated content (AIGC) as stimuli in a design thinking workshop to explore improvements in hospital discharge services for elderly patients. While most technological innovations and interactive experiences in healthcare adopt a patient-centered approach, this research shifts the focus to healthcare providers, drawing on their expertise to envision future discharge processes. Utilizing real-world news articles and scenarios generated by ChatGPT, participants engaged in collaborative design activities to examine how these resources could inform the development of discharge services. The findings demonstrate that the combination of news and AIGC scenarios effectively stimulated creative thinking, broadening participants' conceptualization of future discharge experiences and encouraging the generation of innovative design solutions to enhance current service workflows. This case study highlights the potential of AIGC as a speculative tool in the future design of healthcare services.
