Abstract

The dialogue in the studio environment can reveal a lot about the mechanisms at play when teaching about and doing formgiving. From analysing language used in “desk-crits” at a master’s level mobility course, this paper reveals three distinct mechanisms at play when discussing form in industrial design. The revelatory approach and thematic analysis offer a unique insight into the way form is discussed between tutor and student in the studio context.
