Abstract

This paper investigates the transformative role of Generative AI (GenAI) in enhancing 3D modelling education within the context of fashion design. As digital technologies rapidly evolve, the integration of GenAI tools into educational frameworks has the potential to redefine pedagogical practices, fostering creativity and improving learning outcomes for students. Through a mixed-methods approach involving surveys and interviews with a group of 20 fashion and knitwear design students, we explore how GenAI tools facilitate personalized learning experiences, promote collaborative engagement, and ultimately prepare students for the complexities of a technology-driven industry. Findings indicate that the use of GenAI significantly enhances student engagement, providing tailored support that allows students to navigate the complexities of 3D modelling with greater efficiency and creativity. Moreover, the study highlights the importance of addressing ethical considerations surrounding AI utilization. This research contributes to the ongoing discourse on the intersection of technology and education, emphasizing the critical need for educators to develop their Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK) to effectively integrate AI tools within the curriculum. By illuminating both the benefits and challenges of using GenAI in fashion education, this paper serves as a resource for educators looking to innovate their teaching practices and adapt to the evolving landscape of digital design.
