Abstract

Design competition plays an important role in education. The purpose of this paper is to explore the motivational factors of the participants in the industrial design competition and what attributes affect these factors in the industrial design competition. In this study, a two-stage method combining qualitative and quantitative methods is used, including evaluation grid method and quantitative theory type 1 method. These are methods based on miryoku engineering theory. The results of the study reflect the motivational factors of students to participate in the design competition, and establish the weighted relationship between these motivations and competitive attributes. The most important reason for students to participate in the competition is to obtain sense of authority (Y1), Sense of fairness (Y2), sense of self-realization (Y3) and sense of honor (Y4). These abstract reasons contain the corresponding rationale and specific reasons. The results of this study can provide a theoretical reference for the participating students, educational institutions and competition organizers. For students to participate effectively in the design competition and enhance learning motivation and enthusiasm to provide help.

Motivational factors for participation in industrial design competition
