Abstract
Currently, notions of the planetary have made their way to the center field of design's key concern. In this article we ask the question: can we imagine a planetary turn for design and if so, what would be its key concerns. Drawing on ongoing research on urban nature, design and planning in and around Copenhagen, we, outline ‘the planetary turn’ as it has emerged in recent years and relate it to current movements in the design field, before suggesting five propositions open up for the ‘interstice’ and ‘in-between in design’, which we argue is never void of meaning but part of an emerging vitalism. Through sensory attunements, we recognize the pluriversal vitalism unfolding in the ruins left by anthropocentric urban development. Starting from speculative writing, we will present our propositions through performative and audiovisual gestures to enact imaginaries of withdrawal and cohabitation together with our participating audience.
