Abstract
Reconsideration of the nature of design and the exploration of the future scope of design practice and its role within society is recurrent within academe. This has been represented recently by discussion about the role of design in the development of services rather than products. This paper describes an investigation of complex system design, which led to the derivation of a content-based model of design practice. It also describes the process of determining the utility of the model, based on the perceptions of design practitioners.
