Abstract
Design and strategy are inherently oriented toward change and innovation. Innovation is about invention and implementation, but dependent on design, strategic design requires management. This paper describes an approach to design strategy as innovation for social impact. A pedagogical approach/curriculum for teaching design strategy is discussed as a core design research activity. Future-focused yet human-centered methods are emphasized as the framework for structuring the projects to yield outcomes towards some of the most pressing global issues we face today.
