Abstract
Cultivating creativity is the central problem of all design education, including service design education. Obtaining design knowledge is an effective method to improve students' creativity. Despite the availability of various service design tools, these tools tend to focus more on analyzing and describing services. It is still tricky for inexperienced service design novices to overcome design fixation and experience limitations and generate innovative design solutions. This study developed a novel service design tool, Service Design Heuristic Cards (SDHC), which assist novice designers in concept generation by conveying expert knowledge. The article provides a detailed description of the tool development process and demonstrates its usability and efficacy through a design workshop. Additionally, we discovered certain mapping relationships and combination forms within SDHC, which provided new insights for constructing a new pedagogical framework for design learning and teaching.
