Abstract
A transition in human thought and behavior was brought about by the Industrial Revolution in the middle of the 18th century, which increasingly replaced handcrafted industries with mass manufacturing of goods and services. In a nation like India, the majority of the rural population still relies on labor-intensive, widely scattered handicrafts. The second most important component of the country's tradition, both culturally and economically, is handicrafts, after agriculture. Since the beginning of the 1980’s there have been efforts to revive handicrafts, and many initiatives were formulated to support artisans by imparting training workshops in craft. But considering the current scenario, the lack of innovation in these practices is leading to the decline of these crafts. Hence the goal of this research study is to identify the possible parameters that contributes to innovation in the craft-design process, and to formulate a holistic framework that will enable innovation in the process.
