Researching Design Education - Proceedings of the 1st International Symposium for Design Education Researchers, 2011
Erik Bohemia, Borja de Mozota Borja de Mozota, and Luisa Collina
The 1st International Symposium for Design Education Researchers was held under the auspices of the CUMULUS, the International Association of Universities and Colleges of Art, Design and Media and the Design Research Society's Design Pedagogy Special Interest Group. One of the aims of the symposium was to develop and to establish relationships between CUMULUS and DRS Design Pedagogy Special Interest Group. The idea was to bring members from these two societies and strengthen the capacity to enhance the quality of design education through examining how innovation in education is informed by and is informing design research.

Proceedings of the 3rd Conference of Doctoral Education in Design (2003)
David Durling and Kazuo Sugiyama
The 3rd conference on 'Doctoral Education in Design' was hosted by several Asian design societies in partnership with the Design Research Society, and was held in parallel with the 6th Asian Design Conference, in Tsukuba, Japan, in October 2003. The call for papers stressed an overriding theme of the 'Practice of Research'. We were particularly interested in identifying best practice, and the practical application of best practice, with a focus on organising and teaching the doctorate in design.

Proceedings of the Design Research Society International Conference, 2002: Common Ground
David Durling and John Shackleton
The theme for the 2002 DRS conference was 'Common Ground'. The aim was to bring together many of the sub disciplines and sub-groups of the design research community - to present current work, to explore areas of common interest, to connect, to argue, to integrate, and to celebrate both the commonality and the diversity of our shared interests and strengths. The larger purpose is to take a significant step forward and endorse the new maturity of our international, interdisciplinary community.

Proceedings of the 2nd Conference of Doctoral Education in Design (2000): Foundations for the Future
David Durling and Ken Friedman
The La Clusaz conference focused on four central themes:
1 philosophies and theories of design
2 foundations and methods of design research
3 form and structure for the doctorate in design
4 the relationship between practice and research in design
Participants presented findings, debated ideas, proposed benchmarks for the future development of the doctorate in design, and entered into dialogue on how to develop programs. The conference encouraged participants to interact, using each session as a genuine opportunity to confer. One important goal of the conference was establishing significant working relationships, research alliances, and partnerships among universities.

Proceedings of the 1st Conference on Doctoral Education in Design (1998)
Richard Buchanan, Dennis P Doordan, Lorraine Justice, and Victor Margolin
The 1st Doctoral Education in Design Conference brought people from diverse institutions and situations together to discuss a common concern: doctoral education in design. Participants from nineteen countries assembled on the campus of The Ohio State University in Columbus,Ohio for a conference sponsored by The Ohio State University Department of Industrial, Interior, and Visual Communication Design, the Carnegie Mellon University School of Design, and academic journal Design Issues. Speakers described educational efforts shaped by diverse motivations, resources, histories, and student constituencies.
